Tom DeLay has done more than any other person to construct a system where our representatives sell the privilege of writing legislation to the highest bidder.
...
He is at the center of a machine that launders corporate influence in our political process. And that machine reaches even into the House Ethics Committee that is supposed to be investigating its activity. Four of the five Republicans on the Committee have received money from the DeLay operation.
...
The House Ethics Committee must appoint an outside counsel to lead the investigation. Add your name to the call for accountability:

He does tell the truth sometimes...

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service "dishonest and dishonorable" and urged the White House yesterday to condemn it as well.
The White House declined.
"It was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me," McCain said in an interview with The Associated Press, comparing the anti-Kerry ad to tactics in his bitter Republican primary fight with President Bush.

Movie "orwell rolls in his grave"
Here's another film that could help things. It's about how the monied interests have seized control of the information we get. As with other films, powerful interests are working to prevent the people from seeing it. More information on this film can be found at http://www.buzzflash.com/orwell/

IS THIS AMERICA?
What do Kalamazoo, Evansville, Albuquerque, Stockton, Trenton, Phoenix, Columbia, St. Louis, Knoxville, and Charleston have in common?
All are among the cities where the secret service or police have jailed people for displaying anti-Bush signs during public appearances by his eminence, King George the W. Is this America, The Land of the Free?
That's what Nicole and Jeff Rank asked themselves this July 4th as they were taken away in handcuffs by police in their town of Charleston, West Virginia. What was their heinous crime? They were guilty of not being Bush supporters.
George W's Independence Day trip to Charleston was billed as an official presidential visit, not a campaign rally. Nicole and Jeff two patriotic, hardworking, taxpaying Americans were in the crowd, quietly exercising their free-speech rights. They wore T-shirts declaring: "Love America, Hate Bush."
They had proper tickets to the event, they proudly sang the National Anthem with everyone else, they were in no way disorderly but they were not politically correct, so they were summarily arrested, taken to jail, finger printed...and charged with "trespassing." Others who were there wearing pro-Bush T-shirts and Bush campaign paraphernalia at this public event on public property were not arrested. It seems that the Bushites define "trespassers" by their political beliefs.
Nicole, who worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Charleston, was promptly told that her services were no longer required. Technically, she wasn't fired, but she was "released" from her job and not reassigned meaning she no longer gets paid.
But Nicole and Jeff are still not bowing to King George. Despite the financial hardship, they're fighting Bush's absurd, un-American assault on their constitutional right to dissent. They're not the only ones being denied their right to speak out dissenters all across America are being treated like this. To fight this autocratic lockdown, call the ACLU: 212-549-2500.

What is better than choosing the "lesser of two evils"?
Wouldn't it help our country if we were able to select "None of the Above" if we found none of the offered candidates for a public office, during an election, suitable for the position? If, after "None of the Above" got more votes than the candidates, another election was scheduled with different, better candidates, and then the best-suited person for the job got into office, wouldn't democracy be better served? Knowing that many politicians are just whores for their campaign financiers, what better way to "clean house" than to vote them out of office, clearing the way for actual competence in those elected positions?

Oooh.. did Iraq really have nukes after all? NO!
There is word getting around that the U.S. recently secretly removed nuclear material from Iraq. There is also word that the Bush administration may use a story regarding this in their convention, and for all I know, shock-jocks and Fox may be singing who-knows-what regarding this already. Before you get all excited, here's the deal:
After Bush War I, the center of Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons effort 30 miles south of Baghdad, Tuwaitha Nuclear Center, was disabled at the direction of U.N. inspectors. Highly-enriched uranium was removed from the facility at that time and taken to Russia. The low-enriched uranium was placed under seal in storage at Tuwaitha but under the control of the IAEA, who inspected numerous times after that. The Iraqis clearly never used it for anything or gave it to terrorists, as the quantities we just removed matched the quantities in the IAEA inspection reports.
The recent, "quiet" removal of this stuff is basically just some late housecleaning. Concerns about the well-documented material were so low in the Bush Administration during the 2003 U.S. Invasion that they let looters over-run the facility; much in the same way they let looters empty the National Museum in Bagdad of 270,000 artefacts from the cradle of civilization.
If you start hearing "Aha!"s from Bush Pundits, please remind them that any "Aha" response to this must be based on propaganda. Not on accurate information.

Don't end up like Florida in 2000: Some things you can do (time sensitive)
Florida was the key to the election disaster in 2000. Long before the "hanging-chad" fiasco, and the blatant dereliction of duty committed by Justice Scalia (he didn't recuse himself) and others, thousands of voters in Florida were erroneously scrubbed from the voter rolls, with data that was 90-percent wrong.
Now that we have the "Help America Vote" act, the stage is set for a debacle that will make what happened in Florida look like nothing.
There are two bills on the floor now that are designed to help prevent this: HR2239 and HR4250.
Please urge your elected officials to support these bills.
You can reach your congressmen and senators at http://congress.org/congressorg/officials/congress/
Please consider sending them a letter such as this:
"Dear Sir.
Please do your part to help ensure that no-one is prevented from voting because of erroneous voter-roll purging. Please co-sponsor HR2239 and HR4250.
Sincerely, [your name]
"
The main switchboard for the House of Representatives is at: 202-224-3121
Among the obstacles to this is Congressman Ney from Ohio. He is blocking this legislation from coming to a vote. He is head of the administration committee, so people from other states should contact him too. Anyone in Ohio would do well to contact him, of course.
Please send him a message (with a subject like "Please stop blocking HR2239 and HR4250".") such as:
"Dear Congressman Ney,
Please stop blocking legislation that is designed to ensure that no-one is prevented from voting because of erroneous voter-roll purging. Please enable voting on HR2239 and HR4250.
Sincerely
[your name]"

Aid in preventing FOX news from using the deceptive and misleading trademark "Fair and Balanced"
http://www.moveon.org/news/fox-comments.html
"Why are there so many Republican commentators and guests compared to Democrats? (The media monitor FAIR reports five to one.) Why does Fox business management dictate how the news is framed in its daily memos? Why would Fox assign a reporter whose wife was out campaigning for Bush at the time to conduct an exclusive interview with him? How can Fox's slogan "Fair and Balanced" be anything other than an attempt to deceive viewers and advertisers?"
http://www.moveon.org/news/fox-comments.html
So instead of responding, Fox is going to try to bully other media outlets into going silent on this story. We've got to fight back. Please join our petition now at:
